Breeding German Shorthaired Pointers for your family.
At Harris Gun Dogs of TN, we breed and train exceptional German Shorthaired Pointers (GSPs). Our focus is on breeding calmer-tempered GSPs that excel in hunting, tracking, and service work. Every dog in our program is a member of our family, and we genetically test them to ensure their health and well-being. Whether you're looking for a hunting companion, a search and rescue dog, or a service dog, our GSPs are the perfect choice.
At Harris Gun Dogs of TN, we believe that breeding GSPs is not just a business, it's a passion. We are dedicated to breeding GSPs that are not only healthy and happy but also reflect the unique personality and character of the GSPs. Our commitment to our GSPs and our customers is unwavering, and we strive to provide the best possible experience for everyone involved.
Our breeding program is designed to produce GSPs that are healthy, happy, and well-adjusted. We carefully select our breeding pairs based on a variety of factors, including health, temperament, and conformation. Our GSPs are raised in a loving and nurturing environment, and we take great care to ensure that they receive the best possible care and socialization.
Our facilities are designed to provide our puppies with a safe, comfortable, and stimulating environment. We have spacious indoor kennels that are heated and air-conditioned, as well as large outdoor play areas where our GSPs can run and play. We live with and love on every single puppy to ensure that our GSPs receive the best possible care.
What do you get with two U.S. Army Veterans, former police officer, a special education teacher, and a doctor? The most unique, highly qualified breeders with an unwavering demand for excellece. Our journey began 8 years ago with the goal of breeding calmer GSP puppies that could integrate in families with children and busy lifestyles. We succeeded in creating new lines of GSPs that exhibited calm temperments and hunting excellence. We do not subscribe to the old school breeding hunting dog methodology. Our puppies are cuddled, held, loved, and played with daily. You will not find better socialized puppies that have been desensitized to stimulations of family life.
We do not just sell puppies, not every puppy is perfect for every situation. We take the time to know our clients needs and match them with the perfect puppy that has the unique attributes they are looking for. Every litter we produce, is done with the intention of keeping every puppy unless we find the perfect home. If we do not have a puppy that meets your needs, we will be honest with you rather than placing the wrong dog in the wrong situation. We also provide ongoing support to our puppy owners, ensuring that our puppies are happy and healthy throughout their lives.

We do not and will not breed hunting robots. The GSPs we breed and train are calm family members that excel in all aspects of hunting. All of our puppies are handled and played with by children and family members daily. These puppies will be kissed, hugged, loved, and nuggled. Our puppies are integrated into family life and will be acustomed to laughing, yelling, and crying. Wheter its kids running down the hall, early alarm clocks going off, or older dogs getting rowdy our puppies will have seen it, heard it, and experienced everything a normal houshold has to offer. We believe love and the bond you form with your dog is what makes a good hunting dog great.
Potty training starts early! We do not use pee pads or allow bad habits to form. Puppies start going outside at 4 weeks of age every 15-30 minutes so good potty habits are established by the time you take your puppy home. They will have an understanding that potty is expected after every meal, nap, and playtime. Will accidents still happen when you take your puppy home? YES, but they will be much further ahead making your new puppy transition smoother.
Single handedly the biggest benefit you notice immediately, is our early implementation of kennel training. We are huge supporters of kenneling your puppy while at work, traveling, and at night. They will have a safe place that keeps them out of trouble and you can rest easy knowing your couch and shoes will be safe. One of the hardest parts about bringing a puppy home is the first few nights. We start implementing kennel time at 5 weeks old, gradually increasing the frequency and time until they are able to sleep through the night in a kennel. Our goal is to make your puppy experience as enjoyable as possible and we have received more positive feedback from this than any other intervention we have implemented.
The foundation of every great bird dog is their natural ability to hunt. Every one of our puppies not designated a service dog must successfully pass the Ames Hunt Assessment with a score of 70 or higher before they are allowed to go home at 8 weeks.
